A total of 411 emergency workers who responded to the scene died as they attempted to implement
rescue and fire suppression efforts.
The New yourk fire department (FDNY) lost 341 firefighters and 2 FDNY paramedics
The New york city police department lost 23 officers.
The Port Authority lost 37 officers, as well as a K9 dog named Sirius.
Private EMS units lost 8 additional EMT and paramedics.
Total loss of life...3,385 not including missing or unidentified.

My precious daughter Rebecca was there working in New York a month later. She discribed the devestation and many, many pictures of missing loved ones. Of candles burning everywhere.At that time people were not allowed down to ground zero understandably, but she went as near as she could, She also went to St.Patrick's Cathedral and lit candles. Rebecca had been to New york many times and was deeply affected by what she saw there. She said they will never take the peoples spirit and she was so right, wasn't she.
Having lost our own precious girl,it gives us an insight to the sadness that will always be with the families who lost a loved one due to the callous act of jealous small minded individuals.
